Sargon II Barrel Inscription recreation: Resin cast about 9 inches long by 4 inches round. Sargon II is mentioned one time in the Bible in Isaiah 20:1-2. Skeptics thought Sargon II was a myth and Isaiah was wrong until the discovery of his palace in 1842 at Khorsabad, Iraq. This inscription mentions the capture of Samaria in 722BC (See 2 Kings 17:3-6). Luckenbill translates, “(Sargon II) who devastated the wide land of (Israel ) Bit-Humria, at Raphihu bought about the defeat of Egypt and had Hanunu (Hanno), king of Gaza, brought in bonds to Assur; conqueror of the people of Tamud, Ibadidi, Marsimani, Haiapa, whose remnant was driven out and settled in the midst of (Israel) Bit-Humria” Vol II p.61.
