Babylonian Map of the World (plaster cast) A recreation of a clay tablet from Sippar in southern Iraq. Known by scholars as the "Mappa Mundi" it is the only known world map dating from the Neo-Babylonian period. It schematically depicts a "bird's eye" view of the world, showing it as round and surrounded by a circular sea, and placing Babylon at the center.
