Sefire Treaty Stela Recreation (resin scaled half cast about 7 by 6 1/2 inches). Found in the town of Sefire about 15 miles southeast of Aleppo. It is a treaty made with Matiel, king of Arpad, the main city of the Neo-Hittite state of Bit Agusi. It is written in old Aramaic. The treaty opens with introduction with a list of gods who are witnesses to the treaty. Then there is a list of curses if Matiel and his kingdom breaks the treaty. This is similar to the treaty of the Book of Deuteronomy.
