The book Angels & Demons with the movie being released on May 15, 2009, deals with the age old conflict of science verses religion. In this case, it is the illuminati verses the Roman Catholic Church. Robert Langdon played by Tom Hanks discovers a plot by the secret society, the illuminati to destroy Vatican City by antimatter. Key Conflicts Between Science and the Church
Roger Bacon (1214-1294) also called Doctor Mirabilis(wonderful teacher).
He discovered that light can be split into the colors of the rainbow. The rainbow being explained by natural light upset the church that saw the rainbow as miraculous. He was put under house arrest by Jerome of Ascoli.
Galileo (1564-1642) ran into big trouble with the Roman Catholic Church:
- Heliocentric view (earth revolves around the sun) upset the Church.
- Discovery of small moons revolving around Jupiter. Earth was suppose to be the center.
- Discovery of Sunspots upset the church because the sun was suppose to be perfect.
Galileo said: “The Bible tells us how to go to Heaven, not how the heavens go.”
