Process of Fossilization

1. Original Organic Material -

2. Permineralization - A continuing process where:

   1. Water causes chemical reactions to change organic to inorganic material.

   2. Bacteria causes chemical reactions to change organic to inorganic material.

3. Petrification -This is where the organic material has been completely (100%) turned into inorganic material-stone.

This process can take a very very long time, or a relatively short time if conditions are right.
